Byers Selected South Carolina Education Lottery USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week

AIKEN, S.C. - University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball player Shannon Byers was chosen as the South Carolina Education Lottery USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week on Oct. 17, 2010.

The Morristown, Minn. native led the Pacers this past weekend as they swept their opposition 3-0 on the road. The sophomore averaged a double-double as she led the team with 30 kills to go along with a team second-best 39 digs.

In USC Aiken's 3-2 Peach Belt Conference win over in-state rival Francis Marion, the outside slugger recorded 14 terminations and 19 digs.

The next day Byers continued her stout performance on the court as she recorded her ninth double-double with 11 kills and 14 digs in USC Aiken's 3-1 win over PBC rival UNC Pembroke before wrapping up her weekend with five kills and six digs as the Pacers dealt Elizabeth City State only their third loss of the season.

Byers is currently averaging a double-double with 11 kills and 10.4 digs per match. She currently has a team-high 238 kills and a team second-best 220 digs on the season.

This is her second South Carolina Education Lottery USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week honoring of the fall of 2010. She also acquired the weekly award on Sept. 12, 2010 when she led the Pacers with 37 kills and was second on the team with 40 digs en route to being named to the USC Aiken Volleyball Invitational All-Tournament team.

The South Carolina Education Lottery USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week award honors one student-athlete each week from an in-season sport for their hard work and effort.
