Pacers Sign Five Recruits to National Letters of Intent

AIKEN, S. C. - USC Aiken Head Women's Volleyball Coach Glenn Cox announced the signing of five players to National Letters of Intent on Wednesday for the 2009 campaign.

"I am very excited with our signings up to this point," Cox said. "We have a great group of talent coming in for our 2009 season. Filling the shoes of all the players that graduated in 2008 combined with the loss of two key seniors this season, all in my first few months year here at USCA, has been quite a challenge. All of our 2009 recruits play for solid high school programs and are all playing with some of the premier Junior Olympic Club teams in the country. The future is bright for USCA Volleyball and I am anxiously awaiting next season."

Sara Reeves, from Centreville Va., is a right side hitter that is 5 foot 11 that attends Centreville High School. Reeves will play for the No. 1 Metro American club team this club season and has had the benefit of being set by her club teammate, setter Alex Petock, all last season, who has also signed with USCA.

"Sara is an explosive right side hitter that has a jump reach of 10 feet and will clearly be one of the biggest blocks in the conference," Cox said.

Samantha DeVries, from Orangeville, Ill., is a middle blocker and outside hitter that attends Orangeville High School. DeVries plays with the talented Club Fusion and she will be a key player for them this coming club season.

"Samantha is a good all-around player that will add another multi-dimensional player that can play a number of positions in our lineup in 2009," Cox said.

Ashley Farwell, from Wake Forest, N. C., is a setter that is 5 foot 6 and attends Wake Forest-Rolesville High School. Farwell is playing with NC Elite this season and will be setting the offense for one of the top clubs in North Carolina.

"Ashley is a great defensive player with excellent ball control that will add talent and depth in both the setting and libero positions," Cox articulated.

Alex Petock, from Woodbridge, Va., is a setter that is 5 foot 7 and attends Woodbridge High School. Petock is playing with the Metro American club again this season and will be setting the offense for one of the top clubs in Virginia and Maryland.

"Alex is a gifted setter and a solid defender with a high volleyball IQ that will be great addition this coming fall," Cox remarked.

Shannon Byers, from Morristown, Minn., is an outside hitter that is 5 foot 9 and attends Faribault High School. Byers is playing for the Mizuno Northern Lights Top 18-1 team and she will continue to excel playing at such a high level this club season.

"Shannon is a legit all-around player that will be a great addition both offensively and defensively this coming fall," Cox said.
