Tennis Comes Away With Wins as Women's Team Sweeps Savannah State Twice

AIKEN, SC - The USC Aiken tennis teams won all three matches played on Saturday at the USCA Tennis Complex including the women's doubleheader shut out over Savannah State.
 
The women's team improves to 9-8 on the season as the men go to 13-3 overall.
 
The women's team played their first two matches early in the day as they shutout Savannah State by 6-0 scores in both matches. The men then hit the courts against JUCO No. 4 Abraham Baldwin to take the 6-3 victory.
 
In the first match, the women took all three doubles matches by 8-0 scores and continued their momentum into the singles competition as the Pacers went 6-0, 6-0 in the three matches played. The second match against SSU went the same way as the first one as the Pacers played all six singles matches first and won by the same 6-0, 6-0 score in all six.
 
In doubles competition, sophomore Stephanie Humphrey and junior Maria Soledad Angel are within one game of their tenth victory of the season as they have gone 5-5 in their last 10 matches played.
 
Juniors Mathilde Grenet and Brittany Telford are even at 8-8 on the season as they have gone 4-6 in the last 10 played, and junior Brittany Gore and sophomore Melanie Schnieder are 3-6 this season together.
 
In singles play, Humphrey, Grenet and Angel all went 2-0 on the day while Telford, Schnieder and Hall won the only singles match they played.
 
Angel won her 10th match today as Grenet goes to 9-8 on the season. Telford and Schnieder are both even at 8-8 and 6-6, respectively.
 
On the men's side of things, the Pacers took two of the three doubles matches and kept their winning ways heading into the singles action. USC Aiken forced a third set in two of the matches, coming out on top in one.
 
Senior Bruno Seves and sophomore Filipe Garcia took their doubles match by an 8-5 score as the pair won their 13th match of the season. Senior Chris Kaetz and freshman Gregory Andrade also won their match together as they collected their 11th victory this campaign.
 
In singles, No. 6 Seves had a tough opponent in JUCO No. 3 Rasid Winklaar. The first set, Seves took by a 6-3 score as Winklaar fought hard to try and force a third set. Seves wasn't going to let that happen as he came up with the 7-5 victory in set two. He captured his 13th win this season, fourth against national ranked opponents and his 47th of his career.
 
No. 19 Dagoberto Darezzo almost had his match pushed into a third set but Darezzo would not allow that as he came out with the 6-2, 7-5 victory. The senior improves to 13-2 on the season and takes his 53rd win of his career.
 
Pushing a third set was Kaetz as he faced No. 18 Evandro Rosindo at the number three spot in the lineup. Kaetz took the first set by a 6-3 score but was not able to keep his momentum going into the next two sets. Rosindo came out on top as he took the two sets by the same 7-6 scores. Kaetz goes to 9-5 on the season.
 
Andrade pushed his match into a third set and came out on top. He took the first set by a 6-2 score before falling 4-6 in the second. Andrade fought his was back and captured his eighth win of the season with the 6-3 score.
 
Garcia also won at his singles match by 6-4 and 6-1 scores. He improves his season record to 12-4.
 
The Pacers will return to the courts as they welcome Limestone on Sunday, April 5 at the USCA Tennis Complex. First serve for the men and women will be at 1:00 p.m.
