Dodd Selected to PBC Women’s Soccer All-Academic Team

AUGUSTA, Ga. – University of South Carolina Aiken women’s soccer student-athlete Emily Dodd was selected to the 2011 Peach Belt Conference Women’s Soccer All-Academic Team. 

The announcement came from the league office in Augusta, Ga. on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011. 

Dodd was one of five Pacers noted as Paige Busby, Alli Edens, Kyle Maguire and Jordan Ziegler were Honorable Mention selections.

Before having her season cut short due to injury with two games remaining, Dodd started all 14 games for the Pacers at defender.

Dodd (North Augusta, S.C./North Augusta) has started 45 games for the Pacers at defender over the last three years.

In the classroom, the junior Nursing major boasts a 3.79 grade point average.

Busby (North Augusta, S.C./North Augusta) played in all 16 Pacers matches in 2011, starting six. She picked up the assist in USC Aiken’s season-opening 1-0 overtime win over Coker on Sept. 1. In the classroom, the junior owns a 3.385 grade point average as a Nursing major.

Edens (Lexington, S.C. /College of Charleston) started 14 games for the Pacers between the pipes in the 2011 season. She played in all 14 Pacer matches. She concluded her year with 73 saves. The junior owns a 3.52 grade point average as an Exercise and Sports Science major. 

Maguire (Irmo, S.C./Dutch Fork) started 15 of USC Aiken’s 16 matches in the 2011 season. The defender concluded her year with five shots on goal. In the classroom, the sophomore owns a 3.7 grade point average as an Industrial Mathematics major.

Ziegler (Lexington, S.C./White Knoll) started in eight matches for the Pacers in the 2011 season. She took nine shots on the year. In the classroom, the junior owns a 3.44 grade point average as a Chemistry major.

The Peach Belt Conference Women’s Soccer All-Academic Team is part of a season-long program recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of PBC student-athletes in the classroom as well as on the field. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must have 1) participated in at least half of his/her team’s events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution. The Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors oversee and select the teams.

Founded in 1991, the Peach Belt Conference is home to 30 NCAA Division II National Championships. The league features 13 member institutions in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Alabama that compete in 13 championship sports. The 2011-12 members are Augusta State University, Armstrong Atlantic State University, Clayton State University, Columbus State University, Flagler College, Francis Marion University, Georgia College, Georgia Southwestern State University, Lander University, University of Montevallo, North Georgia College & State University, University of North Carolina at Pembroke and the University of South Carolina Aiken.
