Westphal and Lloyd Garner PBC All-Academic Plaudits
2010 PBC Women's Soccer All-Academic Team
AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Peach Belt Conference league office announced today that USC Aiken women's soccer student-athletes Nicole Westphal and Cassey Lloyd were chosen to the 2010 Peach Belt Conference Women's Soccer All-Academic team.
Westphal closes her career as a three-time recipient of the award. Lloyd obtained the plaudit for the first time on Wednesday.
A four-year starter for the USC Aiken women's soccer team, Westphal (Springfield, Va./Paul VI Catholic) played in 69 matches over her four-year career for the Pacers. Westphal made 65 starts in her career.
Westphal collected 346 saves in goal for the Pacers over the course of her four-year career.
As a freshman, Westphal started all the Pacer games and made a Peach Belt Conference second-best 101 saves.
As a sophomore, Westphal made a PBC-best 117 saves and was chosen to the PBC All-Academic team. She was once again named to the PBC All-Academic team in 2009 as a junior. She recorded 78 saves in net last year to sit fourth in the PBC.
She made 50 saves in goal for the Pacers in the 2010 season.
In the classroom, Westphal currently boasts a 3.815 grade point average. She will graduate from USC Aiken with a degree in Communications.
Lloyd (Lexington, S.C./White Knoll) presently owns a perfect 4.0 GPA as a Biology/Pre-Med student at USC Aiken.
Lloyd saw action in 16 matches for USC Aiken this season. She collected one assist.
As a freshman in 2009, Lloyd scored a goal in USC Aiken's shutout win over Converse.
In addition to Westphal and Lloyd, Emily Dodd (North Augusta, S.C./North Augusta), Megan Killmeyer (Fort Mill, S.C./Fort Mill) and Amanda Steffen (Hopkins, S.C./Brookland-Cayce) received Honorable Mention accolades to the 2010 PBC Women's Soccer All-Academic team.
The PBC Women's Soccer All-Academic team is part of a season-long program recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of PBC student-athletes in the classroom as well as on the field.
To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution.
The Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors oversee and select the teams.
Founded in 1991, the Peach Belt Conference is home to 29 NCAA Division II National Championships. 13 member institutions in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Alabama compete in 13 championship sports. The 2010-11 members of the PBC are Augusta State University, Armstrong Atlantic State University, Clayton State University, Columbus State University, Flagler College, Francis Marion University, Georgia College, Georgia Southwestern, Lander University, University of Montevallo, North Georgia, University of North Carolina at Pembroke and the University of South Carolina Aiken.
