Pacers Vault Into Top-10

LILBURN, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women’s basketball team moved up to a season-best 10th in the latest USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll.

USC Aiken’s ascension into the top-10 marks the second time in the last two years that the Pacers have been ranked in the top-10 nationally. Last year, USC Aiken was ranked eighth in the Mar. 8, 2011 poll.

The highest ranking ever for a Pacer women’s basketball team was in the 2008-09 season when the Pacers were ranked seventh in the Dec. 2, 2008 poll.

USC Aiken (21-3, 14-2 PBC) is one of three Peach Belt Conference teams ranked currently with Clayton State the highest ranked PBC squad at No. 4. Lander is presently ranked 19th.

The Pacers were ranked 17th in the preseason USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll. In the first regular season poll of 2011-12 on Nov. 22, USC Aiken checked in at No. 23. The Pacers were ranked 21st on Nov. 29. USC Aiken was ranked 18th in the Dec. 6 poll. In the last poll of the 2011 portion of the 2011-12 regular season on Dec. 13, USC Aiken was ranked 16th.

The first poll of 2012 saw the Pacers ranked 14th. USC Aiken was ranked 13th on Jan. 10 and 11th on Jan. 17. USC Aiken checked in at No. 15 three weeks ago before being ranked 16th three weeks ago. Two weeks ago, the Pacers were ranked 15th. Last week, USC Aiken checked in at No. 13.

USC Aiken has been in the top-25 for at least one week in four of the last five seasons.

The Pacers have now been ranked in 25 straight USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll.

USC Aiken closed out last week by besting then No. 18 Lander, 57-53, at the Convocation Center on Saturday, Feb. 18.

The Pacer win over Lander (19-5, 14-2 PBC) was their second victory over the Bearcats in the span of 10 days. Both teams have been ranked inside the top-20 nationally in both meetings.

The win moves the two schools even with each other at 14-2 in the Peach Belt Conference East Division standings. USC Aiken will hold the tiebreaker for the No. 1 seed in the division via their two victories over the Bearcats.

The victory over the nationally-ranked Bearcats was USC Aiken’s fifth straight win.

The Pacers have two games this week to close out their 2011-12 regular season.

USC Aiken will first welcome Francis Marion to the Convocation Center at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 22. The Pacers’ final home game of the year will serve as Senior Day for USC Aiken.

USC Aiken will close its 2011-12 regular season on the road against Flagler on Saturday, Feb. 25. Tip-off in the game is slated for 1:30 p.m.
