USC Aiken Womens Basketball Honored for Performance in the Classroom
ATLANTA – USC Aiken was ranked 22nd in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) 2009-10 Top 25 Team Honor Roll released on Tuesday, July 20, 2010.
Under the guidance of head coach Mike Brandt, the Pacers concluded the 2009-10 season with a cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.442.
USC Aiken is the only Peach Belt Conference institution on the prestigious list in 2009-10.
The ranking of 22nd marks the second-highest ever ranking in the WBCA Top 25 Honor Roll for USC Aiken. The Pacers were 14th in the 2000-01 Top 25 Team Honor Roll, but the 2000-01 Pacers helmed by Phil Stern owned a slightly lower GPA at 3.429.
The Pacers’ 2009-10 team GPA is also the highest GPA among all PBC institutions in the history of the WBCA Top 25 Honor Roll. North Georgia earned a ranking of 14th in the 2005-06 season, but they had a 3.435 GPA.
This award, given in NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA and Junior College/Community College, awards teams throughout the nation that carry the highest grade point averages (GPA) for the entire season based on the nomination submitted by WBCA-member head coaches.
GPAs are calculated by dividing the total number of quality points earned by each student-athlete on an institution's roster in the given academic terms by the total number of hours earned by the team. The GPAs are rounded to the nearest thousandth of a point. Per a motion passed by the WBCA Board of Directors in 2007, teams making the list of Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll must obtain at least a 3.000 overall GPA.
