AIKEN, S.C. – The nationally 14th-ranked and Peach Belt Conference East Division second-seeded University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team will play host to PBC East No. 3 Francis Marion in the quarterfinals of the 2011 Peach Belt Conference Basketball Tournament on Wednesday, March 2.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for children and senior citizens. USC Aiken students and PBC students with valid identification will get in free.
Pacer Club passes and faculty and staff IDs are not valid for the PBC Tournament.
USC Aiken and PBC East No. 1 and national No. 2 Lander finished the regular season tied atop the standings with identical 16-2 league marks.
The 14th-ranked Pacers, who downed Lander 66-59 earlier this week at the Convocation Center, were pushed to the second seed due to various tiebreaking procedures.
The Bearcats and Pacers split their two regular-season games, both lost to Clayton State and beat everyone else in the conference.
A coin flip was held in Lander on Saturday with USC Aiken and Lander coaches in attendance.
Lander won the flip and will be the No. 1 seed in the PBC East, with USC Aiken at No. 2.
Francis Marion had already locked up the PBC East third seed.
UNC Pembroke is the fourth seed in the PBC East and will now play at Lander in the first round.
USC Aiken welcomes Francis Marion to the Convocation Center owning a 24-4 record in the 2010-11 season. The Pacers closed the regular season having won 19 of their last 21 games.
The Pacers are currently in the midst of an eight-game winning streak after finishing the last month of the regular season a perfect 7-0.
USC Aiken took both of the meetings this season against Francis Marion. The Pacers first earned a 66-64 win over then No. 25 Francis Marion at the Convocation Center on Dec. 1.
The Pacers came from behind to acquire a 74-66 overtime victory over Francis Marion in Florence, S.C. on Jan. 12.
The winner of the USC Aiken-Francis Marion quarterfinal will advance to the PBC Tournament semifinals at the Convocation Center where they will play the winner of the PBC West No. 1 and national No. 1 Clayton State-PBC West No. 4 Montevallo contest at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 5.
