Harris Tabbed South Carolina Education Lottery USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week

AIKEN, S.C. - University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball player Kayla Harris was selected as the South Carolina Education Lottery USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week on Jan. 9, 2011.

A freshman forward, Harris led the 22nd-ranked Pacers last week, averaging a team-best 18 points and six rebounds per game.

Harris concluded her best week so far in a Pacer uniform shooting 59.4 percent (19-for-32). She shot 60 percent (3-for-5) from beyond the arc.

The Raleigh, N.C. native opened last week by scoring a career-best 23 points in USC Aiken's road win over Georgia Southwestern on Monday, Jan. 3. Harris was 9-for-13 from the field in the win over the Hurricanes.

The Wakefield High School product followed up her performance in the win over Georgia Southwestern by acquiring her first career double-double in USC Aiken's next game with 15 points and 10 rebounds in USC Aiken's home win over UNC Pembroke on Wednesday, Jan. 5. She collected four of her ten boards in the game on the offensive glass.

Harris concluded USC Aiken's perfect 3-0 week by scoring 16 points in USC Aiken's win over Armstrong Atlantic State at the Convocation Center on Saturday, Jan. 8. She also had five assists and a career-high three steals in the win over the Pirates.

The South Carolina Education Lottery USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week award honors one student-athlete each week from an in-season sport for their hard work and effort.
