Harris Named Days Inn Downtown Aiken USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Month for January

AIKEN, S.C. - University of South Carolina Aiken women’s basketball player Kayla Harris has been tabbed as the Days Inn Downtown Aiken USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Month for the month of January.

Harris concluded the month of January averaging a team-best 17.1 points per game. She also averaged a team second-best 5.7 rebounds per game in USC Aiken’s eight games during the course of the first month of 2011. She collected 17 of her 40 rebounds in January on the offensive glass.

The freshman forward from Raleigh, N.C. shot 54.1 percent (46 of 85) from the field in her seven games played in January.

In total, Harris scored in double figures in all but one of her seven games in January, scoring 20 or more in three games. She scored a career-high 23 points in two games, netting 23 in a win over Georgia Southwestern (Jan. 3) and once again acquiring 23 before a nationally televised audience in USC Aiken’s narrow 66-60 loss to current national No. 2 Clayton State on Jan. 15 at the Convocation Center.

The Wakefield High School product obtained her first career double-double in January in a 68-38 win over UNC Pembroke at the Convocation Center on Jan. 5. She finished the Pacer win with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

The Days Inn Downtown Aiken USC Aiken Athletic Department Student Athlete of the Month award honors one student-athlete each month from an in-season sport for their hard work and effort.

Each month one winner will be chosen from an in-season sport.
