Kornegay Named South Carolina Education Lottery USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week
AIKEN, S.C. - University of South Carolina Aiken softball player India Kornegay was named the South Carolina Education Lottery USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week on Feb. 20, 2012.
The Peach Belt Conference Preseason All-Conference pitcher began her sophomore season with the Pacers this past weekend by going a perfect 4-0.
Kornegay started just two of the four Pacer games on the weekend, but she was able to claim the win in both of her relief appearances.
The Eufaula, Ala. native commenced the 2012 season for USC Aiken on Saturday, Feb. 18 by fanning 14 in USC Aiken’s 4-1 game one road win over Catawba. Kornegay allowed just two hits and one run in the game.
Kornegay was able to collect the win in USC Aiken’s second game 10-1 victory over Catawba by pitching the final three innings. She allowed one hit, while striking out five.
In USC Aiken’s 3-0 game one home win over Queens on Sunday, Feb. 19, Kornegay struck out 12 in seven innings in the circle. She allowed just two hits.
Kornegay closed out her impressive first weekend of the year by picking up the win as a reliever in USC Aiken’s thrilling come-from-behind game two 7-6 victory over Queens. Kornegay fanned seven in her 3.2 innings in the circle.
In total over the course of the four games, Kornegay finished
with 38 strikeouts. She held her opposition to a .090 batting
average. Kornegay currently owns a 0.34 ERA.
