Kornegay Named Days Inn Downtown Aiken USC Aiken Athletic Department Student Athlete of the Month

AIKEN, S.C. - University of South Carolina Aiken softball player India Kornegay has been named as the Days Inn Downtown Aiken USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Month for the month of February.

In her first month of collegiate play, Kornegay broke a school record and earned several accolades while showing she is prepared to make the jump from high school to college athletics.

The Eufaula, Ala. native went 4-2 in the circle for head coach Jerry Snyder and the USC Aiken softball squad in February while recording an impressive 0.85 earned run average with her opposition batting just .122 against her.

In her 41 innings of work, the USC Aiken South Carolina Education Lottery Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Feb. 14 has already retired an astounding 66 batters in just seven appearances.

Kornegay has already earned Peach Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week and Freshman of the Week plaudits this season as she has fanned double-digit batters three times already this season, including 16 in USC Aiken’s PBC opening win over Lander on Feb. 22. The 16 strikeouts broke the school record for most strikeouts in a single game previously held by Stacie Oakley.

The Days Inn Downtown Aiken USC Aiken Athletic Department Student Athlete of the Month award honors one student-athlete each month from an in-season sport for their hard work and effort.

Each month one winner will be chosen from an in-season sport.
