Kornegay Named Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Week for Third Time
AUGUSTA, Ga. – For the third time this season, University
of South Carolina Aiken softball player India Kornegay has been
selected as the Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Week.
Kornegay was also tabbed by the PBC office as the Freshman of the
Week on Feb. 22 and March 8.
She was named the PBC Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 15.
The Eufaula, Ala. native went a perfect 3-0 in 21 innings pitched
last week.
Kornegay opened her stellar week with her first no-hitter in her
collegiate career during USC Aiken's 5-0 game-two victory over St.
Andrews on Wednesday, March 23. She struck out nine batters and
allowed just two walks against the Conference Carolinas foe.
The Eufuala High School product followed that performance up with a
stout performance on Saturday, March 26 as she pitched both
complete games in the Pacers' league sweep of PBC foe Georgia
Southwestern. During the 2-0 game-one victory over the Hurricanes,
Kornegay retired eight batters and gave up just three hits. She
then turned around and gutted out the second game, a 3-2 win, to
strike out five.
On the week, she recorded a 0.67 ERA with her opponents hitting
just .157 against her.
Kornegay is 10-4 on the year with a 1.09 ERA. She currently has 147
strikeouts for the entire year. She is presently second in the PBC
in ERA, third in the league in opponents’ batting average and
fourth in the conference in strikeouts.
