Pacers Fall to Patriots in PBC Tournament
FLORENCE, S.C. – The seventh-seeded USC Aiken softball team dropped their second round game against the third-seeded Francis Marion Friday evening at Freedom Florence Recreational Complex. The Pacers were unable to keep up the pace set in the first game, falling to the Patriots 5-0.
Francis Marion moves to 33-12 overall with the win over the Pacers and will continue play in the winners’ bracket of the tournament Saturday, Apr. 17. The Patriots will take on North Georgia Saturday afternoon.
USC Aiken falls to 21-22 overall. Due to the tournament being a double elimination tournament, the Pacers’ season will continue and they will look to play eighth-seeded Lander after they defeated Flagler in the second round.
Francis Marion took control of the game both at the plate and in the field. The Patriots scored single runs in the second, third and fifth inning, and put the game away with two runs scored in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Michaela Wolf secured the win, shutout and no-hitter in the circle for the Patriots. She is now 19-6 for the season.
First team All-Conference player Toni Flessate (Goose Creek, S.C./Stratford) suffered the loss in the circle for USC Aiken. She moves to 13-10 in the 2010 campaign.
USC Aiken will continue play in the double elimination tournament by taking on the eighth-seeded Lander Bearcats on Saturday, Apr. 17. The game is slated to begin at 11 a.m.
