Locklear Selected to PBC Softball All-Academic Team
2010 Peach Belt Conference Softball All-Academic Team
AUGUSTA, Ga. – USC Aiken junior shortstop Lauren Locklear was chosen to the 2010 Peach Belt Conference All-Academic First Team. The team was released from the conference office on Tuesday, May 18.
A native of Charleston, S.C., Locklear currently owns a 3.42 Grade Point Average as a Business Administration and Marketing major.
A two-time All-Peach Belt Conference selection (2009 and 2010), Locklear concluded USC Aiken’s 2010 campaign hitting .321 (51-for-159). She was tops among all Pacers in 2010 with 32 runs scored and 26 RBIs. She acquired a team-best 81 total bases over the course of the past season.
The Wando High School product slugged a team-high .509. She tied or was the team leader in all of the power categories with a team-high 11 doubles, two triples and five home runs. She was the team leader in multiple hit contests in 2010 with 16.
Locklear, who started all 46 Pacer games at shortstop, was second on the team and in the Peach Belt Conference with 134 assists.
The Peach Belt Conference Softball All-Academic team is part of
a season-long program recognizing the outstanding accomplishments
of PBC student-athletes in the classroom as well as on the
field.
To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1)
participate in at least half of his/her team’s events and be
either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.20
cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at
least one full academic year at his or her current institution. The
Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors oversee and
select the teams.
Founded in 1991, the Peach Belt Conference is home to 29 NCAA
Division II National Championships. The PBC features 13 member
institutions in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida
and Alabama that compete in 13 championship sports. The 2009-10
members of the PBC are Augusta State University, Armstrong Atlantic
State University, Clayton State University, Columbus State
University, Flagler College, Francis Marion University, Georgia
College & State University, Georgia Southwestern State
University, Lander University, University of Montevallo, North
Georgia College & State University, University of North
Carolina at Pembroke and the University of South Carolina Aiken.
