Freshman Duo King and Jones Named to PBC All-Tournament Team

FLORENCE, S.C. – With the 2010 Peach Belt Conference Softball Tournament at Freedom Florence Recreational Complex in the history books, PBC tournament officials announced the 2010 All-Tournament team Sunday afternoon with a pair of freshmen USC Aiken players earning spots on the squad.

Freshman designated player Kelley King and third baseman Lindsey Jones were both honored for their efforts on the softball diamond during the tournament.

King served as USC Aiken’s designated player in all five of the Pacers’ tournament games going 7-for-16 at the plate with three RBIs and three runs. Her best game came in USC Aiken’s commanding 9-1 win over the Pirates of Armstrong Atlantic State when she went a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish with one RBI and three runs scored.

The Chesterfield, S.C. native was also tabbed to the 2010 All-Conference second team as the team’s designated player Thursday, Apr. 15.

King ends her freshman campaign leading the team in batting average with a .358 batting average in 42 games this season. She accrued 17 runs, six doubles,two triples and 12 RBIs in 39 hits over the 2010 season in route to collecting 49 total bases.

One of just three Pacers to start in all 46 games this season, Jones recorded five putouts in the tournament with 19 assists. Her best game at the plate in the tournament came against Armstrong Atlantic State when she went 1-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored.

A native of North Augusta, S.C., Jones was selected the Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Week twice in 2010 on Feb. 15 and again on Mar. 9.

Jones ends the season with a .247 batting average including 36 hits on the 2010 campaign. She collected 19 runs, 14 RBIs and five doubles over the course of the season.

The 2010 version of the USC Aiken softball team ended their season with an even record of 23-23 after bowing out of the 2010 PBC Softball tournament to tournament-host Francis Marion in the PBC Tournament Semifinals.
