Pacer Tennis Competes In Four Finals at Chick-Fil-A Intercollegiate
AUGUSTA, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's and women's tennis teams competed in the Chick-Fil-A Collegiate Invitational hosted by Augusta State University at the Newman Tennis Center this past weekend.
This was the last tournament of the fall for the Pacers. Four of the players, two men and two women, made it to the final round of their flight.
Greg Andrade (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Unigrade Valinhos) played in flight 1 for the Pacers and won the flight by defeating ASU's Bernardo Fernandes 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 in the final. Teammate Ben Klaas (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia/Kuala Lumpur) was the other Pacer to excel to the final round of his flight where he fell to ASU's Rafael Michan in flight 4.
Women's player Andrea Cediel (Miami, Fla./Cypress Bay High School) defeated ASU's Bianca Machado for the second time this semester in the final of flight 2 with a score of 7-6, 6-4. Lastly, Stephanie Humphrey (Harpenden, England/Sir John Lawes) was the other Pacer to make it to the final round in the flight 1 draw, where she fell to Brandi Cordell of Lander University.
The teams are now preparing for further off-season training in preparation for the 2011 spring campaign.
