Aiken’s doubles tandem of Gregory Andrade and Juan Xavier
Ponce are ranked seventh nationally in the latest Intercollegiate
Tennis Association (ITA) rankings that were released on Monday,
Apr. 5.
Andrade (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Sergio D'Amorim) and Ponce (Miami, Fla.
/Drury University) are currently in the midst of an 11-match
winning streak. The duo is 15-3 overall, including 7-2 in the Peach
Belt Conference.
Andrade and Ponce, who are presently ranked third in the Southeast
Region, are 3-0 in the 2010 spring season against regionally ranked
opponents. The duo is 2-1 against nationally-ranked opposition.
Ponce is also ranked regionally in singles, checking in at No. 16
in singles in the latest ITA Southeast region rankings.
As a team, USC Aiken dropped from 17th to 26th in the latest
national rankings. They are ranked 10th in the latest region
rankings.
The Pacers are one of eight Peach Belt Conference teams ranked in
the top 26 with Armstrong Atlantic State (one), Columbus State
(10), Lander (12), Francis Marion (13), Georgia College & State
(14), Flagler (16) and Augusta State (19) all in the top 20 in the
latest ITA national rankings.
USC Aiken added two new matches to their schedule on Monday. The
USC Aiken men will now travel to Columbia, S.C. to take on Benedict
at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Apr. 10. USC Aiken’s men’s and
women’s tennis teams will also now travel to Brevard, N.C. at
3 p.m. on Tuesday, Apr. 13 to square off against Brevard.
The USC Aiken men will next travel to Gaffney, S.C. to take on the
Limestone Saints on Wednesday, April 7. The match is scheduled to
get underway at 4 p.m.
After the men take on
Benedict on Saturday, the USC Aiken men and women will then
conclude the week by traveling to Gaffney, S.C. to play a neutral
site match against Lees-McRae at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April
11.
