Eighth-Seeded USC Aiken to Open PBC Men’s Tennis Championship Against Top-Seeded Armstrong Atlantic State

2010 Peach Belt Conference Men's Tennis Tournament Bracket

JONESBORO, Ga. – The 26th-ranked USC Aiken men’s tennis team is the eighth seed in the 2010 Peach Belt Conference Men’s Tennis Championship.

The Pacers will open the 2010 PBC Championship at 12 p.m. on Friday, Apr. 16 against top-seeded and national No. 1 Armstrong Atlantic State at the Clayton County Tennis Center.

The winner of the USC Aiken-Armstrong Atlantic State quarterfinal will move on to square off against the winner of the #4 Francis Marion-#5 Flagler quarterfinal in the semifinal round, which will be contested at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Apr. 17.

Armstrong Atlantic State, which bested the Pacers 9-0 earlier this season in Savannah, Ga., is vying for its sixth consecutive Peach Belt Conference Tournament title. The Pirates finished the 2010 regular season at 24-1 en route to their fifth straight league regular season championship.

USC Aiken has won three of its last four matches. The Pacers are presently 10-10 in the regular season and they will conclude their 2010 regular season at 3 p.m. today (Thursday) against Wingate in Wingate, N.C.

The PBC Tournament format has changed for this year. Instead of all conference teams advancing to tournament play, only the top eight seeds will vie for the championship.

All quarterfinal rounds will be played on Friday starting at noon with the semifinals on Saturday.

The PBC Championship match will be held on Sunday at 1 p.m. Admission to all matches is free.
