USC Aiken Acquires Important Region Win Over Limestone
GAFFNEY, S.C. – The 26th-ranked USC Aiken men’s tennis team acquired an impressive 8-1 victory over 34th-ranked Limestone on Wednesday afternoon at the Emmie Evans Rector Tennis Center.
The pivotal NCAA Division II Southeast Region victory over Limestone improved USC Aiken to 9-10 on the year. Limestone is now 7-9 overall.
USC Aiken’s lone loss in the match was a rare one as USC Aiken’s No. 1 doubles tandem of nationally seventh-ranked Gregory Andrade (Paulo, Brazil/Sergio D'Amorim) and Juan Xavier Ponce (Miami, Fla. /Drury University) surrendered their first match in their last 12 outings with an 8-6 loss to Limestone’s No. 1 doubles tandem of Jordan Vicain and Christian Warnholtz.
USC Aiken closed out doubles with a 2-1 lead on hard-fought matches at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
Things changed in singles with USC Aiken collecting five of the six singles matches in straight sets. Ben Klass (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia/Deutsche Schule Kuala Lumpur ) commandeered the most emphatic of the six singles wins with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Limestone’s Henrik Nordquist at No. 5 singles.
USC Aiken has two matches this weekend, beginning with a road match against Benedict in Columbia, S.C. on Saturday, Apr. 10. The match is slated to get underway at 10 a.m. The Pacers will return to Limestone’s tennis complex on Sunday, Apr. 11 for a neutral site match against Lees-McRae at 1 p.m.
