Markiewicz Falls in Quarterfinals of ITA Region Championship
SUMTER, S.C. - USC Aiken's Nicolas Markiewicz fell in the quarterfinal round of the men's singles "A" consolation draw at the 2009 Wilson Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southeast Region Championships on Sunday.
Markiewicz (Liege, Belgium) had defeated Evan Schreiner of Coker College by the score of 6-1, 6-0 on Saturday to stay alive in the consolation section of the singles "A" flight. Markiewicz fell 6-3, 6-2 to Armstrong Atlantic State's Daniel Regan at 11 a.m. on Sunday in the quarterfinals to thwart his chances of a championship in the consolation draw.
The region championships were hosted this year by Francis Marion and they were held at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, S.C.
Markiewicz and the Pacer men's and women's tennis teams will next conclude their 2009 fall slate by playing in the Chick-Fil-A Collegiate Tennis Championships (Oct. 2-4).
