Pacers Conclude Season With Loss to Lander in PBC Quarterfinals
GREENWOOD, S.C. - The University of South Carolina Aiken men's soccer team concluded its 2009 season with a 2-0 loss to league rival Lander in the quarterfinals of the 2009 Peach Belt Conference Men's Soccer Championship on Tuesday.
USC Aiken concludes its 2009 campaign with a 7-11-1 record. Lander advances to the Peach Belt Conference Tournament semifinals where they will face off against Clayton State, which defeated UNC Pembroke 5-0 in its quarterfinal match on Tuesday.
Adam Arthur netted both of the tallies for the Bearcats on Tuesday. Arthur scored the first goal of the night in the sixth-minute. He acquired his second goal of the evening at the 70:21 mark.
USC Aiken controlled much of the action in the match and had a couple dynamic chances to eventually tie or even the match. Corey Adamson (Clearwater, Fla./Clearwater) had one of the best chances of the evening when he hit the crossbar on a rocket shot from around 30 yards out in the early goings of the first half.
Troy Watson (Kingston, Jamaica/Montreat) almost evened the match at 1-1 in the opening segment of the second stanza when he corralled the ball in the six-yard box. Watson deftly maneuvered past his defender, but just missed left to leave the Pacers scoreless on the evening.
USC Aiken finished with three more shots than the Bearcats in the match in total at 11-8. The Pacers controlled the corner kick battle, 6-3.
