USC Aiken Picks Up Third Consecutive Positive Result in Tie with Newberry
NEWBERRY, S.C. - The USC Aiken men's soccer team acquired its
third consecutive positive result and its fifth positive result in
its last six outings in a 0-0 double-overtime tie with Newberry on
Wednesday afternoon at NC Soccer Field.
The tie with Newberry on Wednesday leaves the Pacers with a 4-3-1
record in the 2009 season. Newberry is now 1-7-2 in the 2009
season.
The tie also leaves the Pacers without a loss against a South
Atlantic Conference foe in the 2009 season with a 3-0-1 mark
against the SAC. The Pacers over the past few weeks have beaten
Catawba (7-0), Mars Hill (3-2 OT) and Carson-Newman (4-3).
The Pacers took a total of 24 shots in the Newberry match with 15
of the shots sailing towards the Newberry net. Newberry finished
the match with 17 total shots, but only six of the shots were on
frame.
Freshman Devin Lemaire (Evans, Ga./Greenbrier) played all 110
minutes between the pipes for the Pacers to earn his first complete
game shutout. Lemaire had combined with Andray Charles (Grenada,
West Indies/Presentation Brother's) earlier in the year for a
shutout victory over Catawba at the "Pacer Pit."
Joel Johnson logged all 110 minutes in goal for Newberry on
Wednesday to pick up the shutout.
USC Aiken will finish its week by trying to remain perfect in
league action with a contest against new league member Flagler at
the "Pacer Pit" at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3.
