Welborn Named South Carolina Education Lottery USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week

AIKEN, S.C. - University of South Carolina Aiken golfer Taylor Welborn was named the South Carolina Education Lottery USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week on Sept. 11, 2011.

Welborn kicked off his Pacer career strongly by winning the Eighth Annual Kiawah Island Invitational at the 6,875 yard, par 72 Cougar Point Golf Course in Kiawah Island, S.C.

Welborn (LaGrange, Ga./Darton) posted a final two-round tally of 5-under 139 (68-71) to best Georgia Southwestern's JP Griffin (140) by one stroke.

The two entered the final round of play tied after carding 68s in the first round of action. Welborn's 71 in the second round bested Griffin's 72 in round two by one stroke, allowing Welborn to secure individual medalist honors.

Welborn was also chosen the Peach Belt Conference Golfer of the Week for his efforts last week.

The South Carolina Education Lottery USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week award honors one student-athlete each week from an in-season sport in 2011-12 for their hard work and effort.
