Atkins Tied for Sixth After Round One of Will Wilson Tanglewood Intercollegiate

First Round Results

CLEMMONS, N.C. – University of South Carolina Aiken golfer Matt Atkins is in a tie for sixth place after the first round of play at the Will Wilson Tanglewood Intercollegiate at the par 70 Tanglewood Park Championship Course.

Atkins is one of eight Pacers competing in USC Aiken’s final event of the fall as Taylor Welborn (LaGrange, Ga./Darton), Gaines Milliner (Aiken, S.C./Aiken) and Stéphane Boudreau (New Brunswick, Canada /Kent State) are all playing as individuals for the Pacers at the annual event.

USC Aiken’s official five-man roster for the event features Atkins (Owensboro, Ky./Henderson State), Mark Dickson (Edinburgh, Scotland/Firrhill), Kyle Godsman (Moray, Scotland/Lossiemouth), JP Solis (Morelia, Mexico/Lico Morelia) and Hayden Letien (Sumter, S.C./Sumter).

Atkins carded an even 70 in the opening round to sit tied with four others for sixth place. Four Pacers are in the top 21 in total.

The nationally 10th-ranked Pacers concluded Sunday’s first round in eighth place as a team as USC Aiken’s five-man roster (top four scores count) posted a 298 in the first round.

Wingate is in first place after round one as a team with a score of 285. Carson-Newman and Newberry are tied for second at 290.

Belmont Abbey’s Arnor Finnbjornsson and Wingate’s Clifford Blanquicet are in first individually after the first round of action with 2-under scores of 68.

The second round of the three-day Will Wilson Tanglewood Intercollegiate is set to begin at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 17.
