Atkins Remains in Contention at Will Wilson Tanglewood Intercollegiate
CLEMMONS, N.C. – University of South Carolina Aiken golfer Matt Atkins remains in contention after posting a second round score of 71 at the Will Wilson Tanglewood Intercollegiate at the par 70 Tanglewood Park Championship Course.
Atkins’ (Owensboro, Ky./Henderson State) two-round tally of 141 (70-71) has him tied with four others for fourth place. The score is just three strokes behind leader Jordan Walor of UNC Pembroke. Walor owns a two-round score of 138 (69-69).
North Georgia’s Howard Duffin is in second at 139 (70-69), while Wingate’s Clifford Blanquicet is third at 140 (68-72).
Wingate (285-291) and UNC Pembroke (292-284) are currently tied for the team lead at 576.
The nationally 10th-ranked Pacers moved up one spot to seventh after carding a second round team score of 293. USC Aiken’s two-round team tally of 591 (298-293) has them just 15 strokes behind leaders Wingate and UNC Pembroke entering the final round on Tuesday.
Playing as an individual, USC Aiken’s Stéphane Boudreau (New Brunswick, Canada /Kent State) is the only other Pacer in the top 20 individually. Boudreau’s two-round tally of 149 (74-75) currently has him tied for 19th with Mount Olive’s Kyle Simpson.
The third and final round of the three-day Will Wilson Tanglewood Intercollegiate is set to begin at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 18.
