Pacers in Fourth After First Two Rounds of Springhill Suites Intercollegiate

Round Two Results

FLORENCE, S.C. – The 18th-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken Golf team is in fourth place after the first two rounds of the 2011 Springhill Suites Intercollegiate at the 7,062-yard, par 72 Country Club of South Carolina.

The three-round, two-day tournament is being hosted by Francis Marion.

USC Aiken posted identical team scores of 288 in both the first and second rounds to own a cumulative team score of 576 after two rounds of action. The Pacers are just five strokes off the lead.

Furman is leading the Springhill Suites Intercollegiate through two rounds with a team score of 571 (288-283). Samford (573) is in second followed by College of Charleston (575) in third.

Two Pacers are presently in the top 10 individually in the event with Kyle Godsman (Moray, Scotland/Lossiemouth) leading the way for USC Aiken. Godsman carded a 2-under 70 in round one before posting a 4-under 68 in round two. His two-round tally of 6-under 138 has him tied with Charleston Southern’s David Denlinger for second entering the final round. Furman’s Matthew Broome is first presently with a two-round score of 7-under 137 (68-69).

USC Aiken’s Matt Atkins (Owensboro, Ky./Henderson State) is currently tied for sixth individually after tallying a 3-under score of 141 (70-71) in the first two rounds.

The third and final round of the Springhill Suites Intercollegiate will be contested tomorrow (Tuesday, Sept. 13).
