Atkins in 15th Place After First Two Rounds of Firestone Invitational

AKRON, OHIO – University of South Carolina Aiken golfer Matt Atkins is in a tie for 15th place after the first two rounds of action at the Firestone Invitational at the par 72, 7,125-yard Firestone Country Club North Course.

Atkins (Owensboro, Ky./Henderson State) is tied with six others for 15th place with a two-round tally of 1-under 143. Atkins carded an opening round 71 before posting an even 72 in round two.

Two Pacers in total are in the top 50 individually after the first two rounds of play as Mark Dickson (Edinburgh, Scotland/Firrhill) is tied for 36^th with a two-round score of 147. Dickson rebounded from an opening round 76 by carding a 1-under 71 in the second round.

The nationally fourth-ranked Pacers are currently 16^th as a team with a two-round team score of 596 (302-294).

Indiana (289-283) and Southern Methodist (290-282) are currently tied for first with team scores of 572. St. Mary’s (294-279) is one stroke behind in third at 573.

St. Mary’s Mac McClung (71-66) is in first place individually after two rounds with a 7-under score of 137. Southern Methodist’s Max Buckley (69-69=138) and Harry Higgs (71-68=139) round out the top three.

The third and final round of the Firestone Invitational will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 11. All of the action in the tournament will be able to be followed live on USC Aiken’s official athletic website at www.PacerSports.com.
