2011 USC Aiken Golf Fall Schedule

AIKEN, S.C. – University of South Carolina Aiken head golf coach Michael Carlisle announced the 2011 Pacer fall golf schedule on Friday, May 27, 2011.

The 2011 USC Aiken fall golf schedule will feature four tournaments in total in preparation for the 2012 spring campaign.

Coming off a 2010-11 campaign that featured an extremely young but talented Pacer squad, Carlisle is excited about the prospects of the upcoming season.

“We are looking forward to the start of our fall season with everyone returning,” said Carlisle. “Four new players in the fall, including former All American JP Solis, will help us a great deal while still remaining a young team with no seniors.”

Despite their youth, the Pacers concluded the spring of 2011 by making their 19th appearance in the NCAA Division II regionals in the last 20 years.

The Pacers played in 12 events in total in the 2010-11 season. USC Aiken finished in the top 10 as a team in eight of the 12 tournaments.

USC Aiken was ranked in the top 25 for most of the spring of 2011, reaching as high as 17th and finishing the year ranked 23rd.

The 2011 USC Aiken fall golf campaign will begin with the eighth annual Kiawah Island Invitational. The tournament will be contested on Monday, Sept. 5 and Tuesday, Sept. 6.

The Kiawah Island Invitational will take place at the 6,875-yard, par 72 Cougar Point Golf Course in Kiawah Island, S.C. Designed by Gary Player, the course was rated at “4.5 stars” by Golf Digest. The Pacers are three-time winners of the event.

After playing host to the Kiawah Island Invitational, USC Aiken will travel to play in the SpringHill Suites Intercollegiate at the par 72 Country Club of South Carolina in Florence, S.C. The tournament will take place on Monday, Sept. 12 and Tuesday, Sept. 13. The Pacers are six-time champions in the event, having last won the tournament in 2006. USC Aiken claimed the crown in the tournament five-straight times from 1992-96.

The Pacers will open the month of October by playing in Akron’s Firestone Invitational at the par 72 Firestone Country Club. The tournament will be played Monday, Oct. 10-Tuesday, Oct. 11. USC Aiken will be playing in the Firestone Invitational for the first time in 2011.

USC Aiken will close out its 2011 fall schedule by participating in the three-day Tanglewood Intercollegiate at the par 72 Tanglewood Park Championship Course in Clemmons, N.C. The tournament will be contested Sunday, Oct. 16-Tuesday, Oct. 18.
