Pacers to Open Spring at Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - The 20th-ranked USC Aiken golf team
will open its 2010 spring campaign in the two-day, 54-hole Fifth
Annual Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday
(Feb. 22-23).
The Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate is hosted by Francis Marion.
The tournament will consist of 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on
Tuesday. Both days will begin with shotgun starts at 8:30
a.m.
The Wexford Plantation course measures 6,850 yards and is a par 72
layout.
The Pacers are the defending champions in the event, claiming top
honors in the Fourth Annual Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate in
2009.
Departed Pacer great and four-time All-American Roberto Diaz
obtained individual medalist honors for USC Aiken at the 2009
Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate.
The then NCAA Division top-ranked Pacers finished with a cumulative
team score of 897 (292-299-306) to claim the team crown in the
event in 2009. The Pacers' round of 292 in the first round was the
low team round of the tournament.
USC Aiken is a two-time winner of the Wexford Plantation
Intercollegiate, winning the inaugural event in 2006 in addition to
2009.
In addition to the Pacers, this year's Wexford Plantation
Intercollegiate field includes Francis Marion, Cleveland State
University, University of Connecticut, Davidson College, DePaul
University, Elon University, George Mason University, Ohio
University, Presbyterian College, University of Richmond, Samford
University, University of Texas-Pan American, Wake Forest
University, Western Carolina University, College of William &
Mary and Wofford College.
The Pacers as a team played well in the fall of 2009 with USC Aiken
finishing in the top 10 in three of its four events, which includes
a second place finish as a team at the Will Wilson NCAA Division II
Southeast Regional Preview at the par 70 Tanglewood Championship
Course.
