USC Aiken in 12th Place After Round One of Linger Longer Invitational
GREENSBORO, Ga. – The 20th-ranked USC Aiken golf team
concluded the first round of the 2010 Linger Longer Invitational at
the Par 72, 7005-yard Landing Golf Course at Reynolds Plantation in
12th place.
The Pacers carded a first round cumulative team score of 311.
USC Aiken was led in the first round by Kevin Grady (Woodbine,
Md./Century) and Justin Thompson (North Augusta, S.C./North
Augusta), who carded four-over-par 76s in the first round to
conclude the first day in a tie for 24th place with 11 others.
Teammate Gaines Milliner (Aiken, S.C./Aiken) is not far behind the
duo in a tie for 37th with 10 others. Milliner finished the first
round with a 77.
Two teams finished the first round in a tie for first with Furman
tied with NCAA Division I second-ranked Oklahoma State for first
after the inaugural day. Both the Paladins and the Cowboys obtained
a total team tally of 293 in the first round. Alabama is just one
stroke behind the duo in third with a team score of 294 after the
first round.
Alabama’s Bud Cauley carded the low round of the day on
Friday with an eight-under-par 64. The score leaves him six strokes
ahead of current second place Sean Einhaus of Oklahoma State, who
obtained a 70 in the first round.
The second round of the tournament is slated to begin at 8:30 a.m.
