Pacers Ranked Third in First Southeast Region Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS – The University of South Carolina Aiken men’s basketball team was tabbed third in the inaugural NCAA Division II Southeast Region Rankings of the 2011-12 season.

Lincoln Memorial is ranked first in the first region poll of the year. King is just in front of USC Aiken in second. The Pacers are followed by four straight Peach Belt Conference teams. Six Peach Belt Conference teams in total are in the region rankings.

The region rankings were released by the Southeast Region selection committee. The rankings are used to determine the region participants from the Southeast Region for the 2012 NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Championship.

Eight teams from the Southeast Region will receive an invitation to the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Championship. An automatic bid is given to the winner of the Peach Belt Conference, the South Atlantic Conference and Conference Carolinas. The next five highest ranked teams will earn an at-large berth into the national tournament.

The nationally 23rd-ranked Pacers are currently leading the Peach Belt Conference East Division. They are tied with Montevallo for the overall lead in the Peach Belt Conference.

USC Aiken (17-6, 11-4 PBC) will next close the week at home against Lander at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18.
