Brown Named Honorable Mention Preseason All-American by Sporting News

AIKEN, S.C. – University of South Carolina Aiken junior center Alvin Brown has been named an Honorable Mention Preseason All-America selection by the Sporting News.

The 2010-11 Peach Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year, Brown helped to lead the Pacers to a No. 1 national ranking in blocked shots in the 2010-11 season. The Pacers as a team in the 2010-11 season blocked an average of 6.1 shots per outing.

Brown was the catalyst for the Pacer block party with Brown finishing fifth nationally in blocked shots per game with an average of 3.3 swats per game.

Brown in only one year has already moved to third all-time in school history in career blocks with his 90 swats.

Brown averaged 8.9 points and 5.9 rebounds per game in his first season in a Pacer uniform.

Brown collected 12 double-figure scoring outings in the 2010-11 season to go along with three double-doubles.

He had a career-best 21 points to go along with 11 rebounds in a Pacer win over Mars Hill on Dec. 30.

Brown's best game of the year came in USC Aiken's 76-71 win over North Georgia at the Convocation Center on Jan. 17, 2011.

Brown (Fort Washington, Md. /James Madison) broke the Peach Belt Conference record for blocked shots in a single game and finished with the third triple-double in school history in USC Aiken's win over North Georgia.

Brown finished his incredible night with 13 blocks, 13 points and 10 rebounds. His 13 blocks eclipsed the previous USC Aiken and Peach Belt Conference record of 12 blocks in a game that was formerly held by USC Aiken Hall of Famer Derek Moore, who swatted 12 shots in a contest with Coastal Carolina on Dec. 5, 1998.

Brown's triple-double marked the first time that a Pacer had secured a triple-double in a single game since Moore acquired 16 points, 12 blocks and 11 rebounds in the Coastal Carolina game.

Brown was selected as the PBC Player of the Week on Monday, Jan. 24.

As a team overall in the 2010-11 season the Pacers finished second in the Peach Belt Conference East Division with a 10-8 mark in league play.

USC Aiken concluded the year with a 17-10 record overall. The 17 wins leave the Pacers having won a school-record 89 games over the last four seasons.

The Pacers open the 2011-12 regular season Wednesday, Nov. 16 against Voorhees at home at the Convocation Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
