USC Aiken Moves Up to Seventh Nationally in First Regular Season Poll
KANSAS CITY – The University of South Carolina Aiken men’s basketball team moved up to seventh in the nation in the first NABC/Division II Men’s Basketball poll of the regular season.
The Pacers have now been ranked in the top 25 in 29 of the last 43 regular season polls.
USC Aiken is one of three Peach Belt Conference teams ranked in the first regular season poll. Montevallo is currently 13th, while Augusta State checks in at No. 20.
The Pacers are currently 2-0 on the 2010-11 season. USC Aiken opened its year with a 108-63 victory over Voorhees on Nov. 17. Later that week, the Pacers acquired a 77-75 buzzer-beating win over then No. 6 and current national No. 21 Florida Southern.
Entering the 2010-11 season, the USC Aiken men's basketball program has won a school-record 72 games over the last three seasons. The 72 victories over the three-year span are the most in the Palmetto State among all levels of college basketball.
Under the guidance of head coach Vince Alexander, USC Aiken has become a national force in NCAA Division II over the past three seasons.
In addition to the victories, the 2007-08 USC Aiken men's basketball team won the Peach Belt Conference Regular Season Championship and the 2008-09 Pacer men's basketball team advanced farther than any other squad in program history to the NCAA Division II "Sweet Sixteen." The 2009-10 USC Aiken men's basketball team claimed the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Championship.
The seventh-ranked Pacers will continue their 2010-11 season tonight (Tuesday) with a 7:30 p.m. contest against in-state foe Benedict in Columbia, S.C.
