Brown Tabbed USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week

AIKEN, S.C. - University of South Carolina Aiken men's basketball player Mark Brown was selected as the USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week on January 11, 2010.

Brown had the best week of his Pacer career in USC Aiken's perfect 4-0 week that included league victories over Georgia Southwestern, UNC Pembroke, Armstrong Atlantic State and Columbus State.

Brown averaged 14.3 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game in the four victories for the Pacers. He scored in double figures in all four outings.

The Charlotte, N.C. native shot an impressive 50 percent (17 of 34) from the field in the four games. He connected on 44.4 percent (12 of 27) of his three-point attempts. He only missed one free throw on the week, hitting 11 of his 12 (91.7 percent) attempts from the charity stripe.

The Hickory Grove Christian product opened last week by acquiring 11 points in USC Aiken's dominating 77-48 victory over Georgia Southwestern at the Convocation Center on Monday, Jan. 4. He was 4 of 7 (57.1 percent) from the field in the game.

Just two days later, Brown secured his best game in a Pacer uniform by collecting a career-high 22 points in USC Aiken's 95-80 win over UNC Pembroke in Pembroke, N.C. on Jan. 6. The senior guard shot a staggering 71.4 percent (5 of 7) from the field in the contest. He was 4 of 6 (66.7 percent) from beyond the arc. Brown did not miss a single free throw in eight attempts, going a perfect 8 for 8.

Brown followed up his career performance in the UNCP game by scoring 14 in the Pacers' 78-66 win over Armstrong Atlantic State in Savannah, Ga. on Jan. 9. He also had two steals in the game.

Brown's week ended one day later on Jan. 10 with him scoring 10 points in USC Aiken's 68-62 victory over Columbus State at the Convocation Center.

On the year, Brown is shooting an identical 46.3 percent from the field in both non-conference (38 of 82) and Peach Belt Conference (19 of 41) games. Only one player in the Peach Belt Conference is shooting better than Brown from beyond the arc as Brown is currently hitting on 48.4 percent (30 of 62) of his three-point attempts.

The USC Aiken Student Athlete of the Week award is a newly created award for the 2009-10 athletic year. Each week the USC Aiken athletic department is going to honor one individual from an in-season sport for their hard work and effort.
