Rice Selected USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week

AIKEN, S.C. - University of South Carolina Aiken baseball player Bill Rice was selected as the USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week on February 22, 2010.

For the second straight week it was another great week of achievement by Pacer student-athletes, but Rice was given the award this week for his record-breaking efforts in the Pacers' 3-1 week.

Rice (Sewell, N.J./Gloucester County College) had one of the most productive weeks in Pacer baseball history in USC Aiken's four games inside the friendly confines of Roberto Hernandez Stadium last week.

Rice concluded his week hitting .500 (10-for-20), while also owning an astonishing slugging percentage of 1.300 and an on-base percentage of .476.

The junior transfer finished last week with 12 RBIs, while also scoring seven runs. Rice had an amazing seven extra-base hits in the four games with four home runs, two doubles and one triple.

Rice's best game came in USC Aiken's 14-7 win over Georgia Southwestern on Saturday, Feb. 20. Rice was a perfect 5-for-5 in the emphatic victory.

Rice obtained three of his five hits on the day by belting a school single-game record three home runs.

Rice's three home runs and five total hits led to him tying the school single-game record for most RBIs in a single contest. The five hits also tied the school single-game record.

Rice followed up his performance in Saturday's win by going 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored in USC Aiken's series-clinching 10-2 win over Georgia Southwestern on Sunday, Feb. 21.

The USC Aiken Student Athlete of the Week award is a newly created award for the 2009-10 athletic year. Each week the USC Aiken athletic department is going to honor one individual from an in-season sport for their hard work and effort.
