Aranas Named USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week

AIKEN, S.C. - University of South Carolina Aiken baseball player Nick Aranas was chosen as the USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Week on April 26, 2010.

In USC Aiken’s four games last week, Aranas hit a scorching .611 (11-for-18). Aranas owned a slugging percentage of 1.167 and an on-base percentage of .632.

Aranas collected six of his 11 hits last week on extra-base knocks. He belted three doubles, two triples and one home run last week. The six extra-base hits helped lead to seven RBIs and seven runs scored. In total, Aranas bagged 21 bases.

A native of Lexington, S.C., Aranas opened last week by going 4-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs in USC Aiken’s 8-5 victory over No. 24 Catawba. He had a home run in the game.

In helping lead the Pacers to a record-breaking day in a dominating 35-4 win over Catawba, Aranas went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBIs. The Lexington High School product had a double and a triple in the game.

Aranas was 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs in USC Aiken’s game with Erskine before he closed his week by going 2-for-5 with one run scored and two doubles in USC Aiken’s critical region win over Belmont Abbey on Sunday, April 25.

The USC Aiken Student Athlete of the Week award is a newly created award for the 2009-10 athletic year. Each week the USC Aiken athletic department is going to honor one individual from an in-season sport for their hard work and effort.
