USC Aiken Receives Game Environment Award of Excellence
INDIANAPOLIS – The University of South Carolina Aiken was one of 10 NCAA Division II schools honored as Game Environment Award of Excellence winners for the 2010-11 athletic year.
“I am really excited about this news,” noted USC Aiken Athletic Director Randy Warrick. “We try to foster a positive game environment at all of our home athletic events and I think this just shows that we are going in the right direction. I really appreciate Clint Bryant and Augusta State for working with us on this endeavor.”
USC Aiken will be provided with a $500 award for its accomplishment.
USC Aiken will also now be a candidate for the national award. A national winner will be recognized at the 2012 NCAA Convention in Indianapolis.
The Game Environment Award of Excellence recognizes athletics programs that have displayed a special commitment to creating competition environments that stress civility, cater to the comfort of fans and participants and are exciting.
USC Aiken was honored for its part in developing a mascot summit in preparation for its two men’s and women’s basketball doubleheaders in 2010-11 with rival Augusta State.
In anticipation of both of the doubleheaders in the USC
Aiken-Augusta State men’s and women’s basketball
rivalry, the respective mascots met at Christenberry Fieldhouse in
Augusta, Ga. to discuss the upcoming games. The mascot summit was
held just days prior to the first of the two doubleheaders between
the two competitive, but friendly rivals.
The special message on You Tube from Ace the Pacer and Al E. Cat
was sent out to all the local media and to each school’s
students and fan email lists.
The video was also placed on USC Aiken’s You Tube channel and on USC Aiken’s official Facebook and Twitter page. Augusta State also placed the video on its Facebook and Twitter page.
